Collaboration is key when it comes to designing something that stands out and is worth sharing during a fair like Salone del Mobile, says Dutch designer Marc Th. van der Voorn. The Conch light is the result of fruitful teamwork. Aniela Hoitink (MYCOTEX) invited Marc to come up with a lamp design, entirely made of mycelium. A new material brings opportunities and hurdles to overcome. The lamp showcases the potential of Mycelium. Where the fashion industry likes to have seamless and flexible material, Marc asked for a more sturdy and stiff substance, to support the shape of the shell. The light is spread in different directions by the Conch’s shell, giving it its unique appearance when on or off. Conch light is almost ready for its next phase; production and sales. Not all models make it to the final stage. Along the way you learn a lot and it often occurs that findings ends up in another product, or over time the 'missing link' is found. COL chair is one of them.

I always wanted to work with glass. For the LAX side table I used layered glass with a thin sheet of colored foil. The transparency stays, which gives great silhouettes.
The LOOK mirror is out now and available at Het Huysraat in Amsterdam. The brace has a double duty: use it as a stand or mount it to the wall. For all shops and sales details visit the ignore website.
Truly beautiful image of the DANCE side table for ignore in the 2019 color red brown, or more precise: Living coral
Artist impression by Selencky///Parsons for this years auditorium at 100% Design London. Off the shelf components are used to create a reusable, veiled enclosure that acts as a large-scale infographic, highlighting domestic plastic usage. The EPIC lounge chairs are part of their proposal to host the speakers.
Chairs fascinate me and in particular the construction of the legs. Strength and construction compete with elegance and manufacturability. This model DEAN I developed some time ago. It is lightweight and the legs seem to come straight out of the seat, which I like very much. Send me a message when interested.
Light is one of the most important elements in an interior. This image proves it for me.
On www.interieurindex.nl I collect images and stories. Sets of two images are added every week, forming an image diary. Have a look or download and print a poster for yourself: Poster 1 - Poster 2

At night all things look the same. With the absence of light, the color disappears. What is left is shape, texture and reflection of light. NOX is a multidisciplinary exhibition, curated by Niek Schoenmakers and Marleen Kurvers.

During the 25th edition of the Biennale Interieur I show the EPIC family in Kortrijk.
The family of three is selected to be part of 'The Floor Is Yours', a gathering of young talent and designer-driven labels that exemplify a new way of doing business.
For three years I worked together with the Belgium based company ZET furniture to develop the EPIC. So there is no better place than Kortrijk to introduce the EPIC.
You will find us in Hall 3 stand F3-09 - October 14-23. I hope to see you there. - www.interieur.be for more details.
After the introduction in Milan, the EPIC family will be on show during Design District - Zaandam. EPIC is the result of an intensive cooperation between Marc and the Belgium furniture brand Z-editions. Marc is the first Dutch designer to join the team, for that reason Design District is the perfect event to present the models to the Dutch market.
Distinctive back
The EPIC’s back splits the frame in two and gives the model its distinctive look. The round and lascivious shape of the back and seat make it a modern, allround chair for everyday use. The collection comes in oak and can be partly upholstered (seat) or painted in color, offering a world of possibilities at home or in public spaces.
You will find Z-editions at Stand S22 | S23 - Visit www.designdistrict.nl for all the details
Download your digital EPIC brochure here
All EPIC models are available in the 3D Warehouse (Sketchup)
Titled "Masterly - The Dutch in Milano" designers, producers and design agencies presented themselves in the center of Milan during the Salone del Mobile 2016.
The first edition of the Dutch pavilion was a huge success. Masterly was one of the must-sees. During this unique event I introduced the EPIC family, a series of three chairs I developed together with the Belgian brand Z-editions.
Also the Slide mirror I developed with DeKnudt mirrors, and the Hole chair for Spoinq where on show. - www.masterly.nu
After Maison et Objet, Spoinq presented their collection during the Stockholm Furniture Fair. The HOLE chair got introduced to the Scandinavian design fans! I got on the plane and visited them. For me it was a great opportunity to meet new brands and pick up new trends...
This coming edition of Maison & Objet - Paris the Dutch brand Spoinq will launch the HOLE chair. After months of testing, shaping and waiting I'm happy to show you the result of our teamwork.
A surprise is one of the key elements that make people stop, turn their head and have a closer look. The legs of the HOLE chair have this effect on people. As a designer I like to team up with committed brands and manufactures to created outstanding interior products to be enjoyed. I think the HOLE chair is a surprising new chair that is comfortable and looks great too.
Visit Spoinq during Maison et Objet and meet the HOLE chair in Hall 5 B - Stand E47 or visit www.spoinq.nl
A lot of people have a plane and simple shade above there table. I wanted to add something fun to that modest shade. That's when the bird landed on the edge.
The thought was simple, making it work wasn't easy at all. Balance is key in this design. When you put weight on one end you have to compensate for it elsewhere. The steel plate with the logo is not only 'branding', but is also the counterweight that keeps the lamp balanced.
On regular base I share my experiences on Instagram #enjoyables. Tune in on: www.instagram.com/marcthvandervoorn
Together with Odesi I shot a short video on how my designs come to life.
During a visit at my studio we talked about my work method, inspiration and our collaboration. A team effort is needed to create a remarkable product that stands out.
The video is part of a serie. Odesi introduces all there designers in a monthly sequence.

It's all in the details... The Spoinq logo is added to one of the legs of the Swan dining table. I love small details. Be aware of copycats, always look and ask for the logo! - www.spoinq.nl
I was asked to design an accessory matching the Branch dining table. I came up with the LEAF tray, a fruit bowl with a twist. The groove guides the fruit towards the center of the bowl. Just like a real leaf, the wood grains symbolize the grains of a leaf. Together with a local craftsman I produced the first series. The LEAF has a diameter of 45 cm and is 6 cm high. It is made from solid Oak with an oil finish.
Journalist Cor-Peter Pasma asked me how my designs find their way to the customer nowadays. I told him that you'll find links on my website to the brands I work with, and to shops who sell my work. Or my email address for products I produce and sell by myself. Open the PDF through this link.

During the 2015 edition of Interzum (Koln - DE) Van Drenth Buighout and designer Marc Th. van der Voorn introduce the HOLE chair.
Their collaboration is al about both their competence. Van Drenth Buighout developed the whole chair Marc designed and together they like to bring it to market.
A surprise is one of the key elements that make people stop, turn their head and have a closer look. The legs of the HOLE chair have that effect on people. As a designer I like to team up with committed brands and manufactures to created outstanding interior products to be enjoyed. I think the HOLE chair is a surprising new chair that is comfortable and looks great too.

VT Wonen stylist Marianne Luning did a great job, transforming the interior of Simone and Steven 19 century family house in Oudewater to a mix they both like. Simone has a romantic touch while Steven loves heavily built furniture. Two extremes that are hard to bring together in one home.
My Twister dining table with its Oak tabletop and graceful steel legs was a sublime choice. Together with the Square chairs by Ruud-Jan Kokke, it looks industrial and elegant.
To see the total make over have a look at episode 8 VT Wonen - SBS6 - April 5.
Both Twister and Square are part of the Spoinq family.
The MIST watch is a wish come true. The dots grid I used for the clock series Mist & Dots is transformed to a watch. Again the print is on the glass, so the clock hands are behind the artwork. Brand: NeXtime
Recently I received some requests from interior architects who liked to add the models I designed for Spoinq to there plans. For those of you who work with Sketchup there is good news. I'm adding the 3D files to the 3dwarehouse.
It is free to use by consumers and professionals. If you have any suggestions or questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
This is the direct link to my section, or use the 'search' function in 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com to look for specific models or just enter my name.
The TURN-oN lamp was mentioned in an article about Architect Kees van der Hoeven in Volkskrant Magazine (NL). The story was about his self-designed mirrored-house in Wassenaar where he lives with his partner.
The TURN-oN lamp is my first design, released in 2001 by AAN-UIT. Its shape is the archetype of a lamp. The snap fasteners on the edge hold the lamp together and make it possible to literally change the shape of the lamp. For me as a designer it's a 'small gift' when a college appreciates your work...

The Deck sidetable and Swan dining table series are launched in Paris during Maison et Objet. Spoinq was present in two halls with their collection. I'm really happy to present you an overview of the products I developed over the years, together with various brands.
Working together with people with a different background and discipline is what it's all about for me. Creating a chair or table with talented craftsman and dedicated brands is more than 'work', it's my goal in life.
This website is custom build by Elvaio and is also the result of teamwork.
A visit to Kortrijk every two years is definitely worth the journey. I share my highlight in this post: The stand of LZF lamps - www.interieur.be
I got really inspired by Austin's first book 'Steel like an artist'. His next book 'Show your work' is also a must-read for all of you who like to inspire others. His approach to creativity is simple but so true: Every new idea is a re-mix or mashup of one or two previous ideas. Share your work, ideas and knowledge with others… That belief is the reason I started this blog and write items for Gimmii and collect products and images I love on Interieurindex.

For the Dutch magazine LEVEN! I wrote a column about how to optimize the lighting and atmosphere in your home.
Summary: take your time to mix and match the light sources you use. Buy extra lamps to test what works and what not (return what is not working for you!). The tint of all lamps varies in warmth. Take into account the color temperature of illumination you choose. It's measured in Kelvin (K). The lower the number, the warmer the light. For example the flame of a candle is 1200 Kelvin. With this in mind and some extra effort you can gain a lot and make your house a home.
