Swan by Spoinq

It's all in the details... The Spoinq logo is added to one of the legs of the Swan dining table. I love small details. Be aware of copycats, always look and ask for the logo! - www.spoinq.nl

LEAF tray

LEAF tray

Making of

I was asked to design an accessory matching the Branch dining table. I came up with the LEAF tray, a fruit bowl with a twist. The groove guides the fruit towards the center of the bowl. Just like a real leaf, the wood grains symbolize the grains of a leaf. Together with a local craftsman I produced the first series. The LEAF has a diameter of 45 cm and is 6 cm high. It is made from solid Oak with an oil finish.

Unique Design

Journalist Cor-Peter Pasma asked me how my designs find their way to the customer nowadays. I told him that you'll find links on my website to the brands I work with, and to shops who sell my work. Or my email address for products I produce and sell by myself. Open the PDF through this link.

Introduction HOLE chair

Introduction HOLE chair

Interzum - May 2015

During the 2015 edition of Interzum (Koln - DE) Van Drenth Buighout and designer Marc Th. van der Voorn introduce the HOLE chair.

Their collaboration is al about both their competence. Van Drenth Buighout developed the whole chair Marc designed and together they like to bring it to market. A surprise is one of the key elements that make people stop, turn their head and have a closer look. The legs of the HOLE chair have that effect on people. As a designer I like to team up with committed brands and manufactures to created outstanding interior products to be enjoyed. I think the HOLE chair is a surprising new chair that is comfortable and looks great too.

VT Wonen – make over #8

Twister dining table

VT Wonen stylist Marianne Luning did a great job, transforming the interior of Simone and Steven 19 century family house in Oudewater to a mix they both like. Simone has a romantic touch while Steven loves heavily built furniture. Two extremes that are hard to bring together in one home.

My Twister dining table with its Oak tabletop and graceful steel legs was a sublime choice. Together with the Square chairs by Ruud-Jan Kokke, it looks industrial and elegant.
To see the total make over have a look at episode 8 VT Wonen - SBS6 - April 5.

Both Twister and Square are part of the Spoinq family.

Mist watch

Mist watch

Prototype - 2012

The MIST watch is a wish come true. The dots grid I used for the clock series Mist & Dots is transformed to a watch. Again the print is on the glass, so the clock hands are behind the artwork. Brand: NeXtime

Recently I received some requests from interior architects who liked to add the models I designed for Spoinq to there plans. For those of you who work with Sketchup there is good news. I'm adding the 3D files to the 3dwarehouse.
It is free to use by consumers and professionals. If you have any suggestions or questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

TURN-oN lamp

TURN-oN lamp

Volkskrant Magazine - 2014

The TURN-oN lamp was mentioned in an article about Architect Kees van der Hoeven in Volkskrant Magazine (NL). The story was about his self-designed mirrored-house in Wassenaar where he lives with his partner.

The TURN-oN lamp is my first design, released in 2001 by AAN-UIT. Its shape is the archetype of a lamp. The snap fasteners on the edge hold the lamp together and make it possible to literally change the shape of the lamp. For me as a designer it's a 'small gift' when a college appreciates your work...

Working together with people with a different background and discipline is what it's all about for me. Creating a chair or table with talented craftsman and dedicated brands is more than 'work', it's my goal in life.

Inspiration

Inspiration

Show your work

I got really inspired by Austin's first book 'Steel like an artist'. His next book 'Show your work' is also a must-read for all of you who like to inspire others. His approach to creativity is simple but so true: Every new idea is a re-mix or mashup of one or two previous ideas. Share your work, ideas and knowledge with others… That belief is the reason I started this blog and write items for Gimmii and collect products and images I love on Interieurindex.

Column LEVEN! Magazine

For the Dutch magazine LEVEN! I wrote a column about how to optimize the lighting and atmosphere in your home.
Summary: take your time to mix and match the light sources you use. Buy extra lamps to test what works and what not (return what is not working for you!). The tint of all lamps varies in warmth. Take into account the color temperature of illumination you choose. It's measured in Kelvin (K). The lower the number, the warmer the light. For example the flame of a candle is 1200 Kelvin. With this in mind and some extra effort you can gain a lot and make your house a home.
