In The Netherlands you see a lot of outdoor benches made from pine wood. It is a budget material, usually used for scaffolding. The size and weight of the planks make them ideal to build and therefore popular to use. The downside is that most benches look bulky and alike.

For a private client I came up with a more subtle and slender design. By adding mitered joints and an overhanging seat, the bench looks slick. The backrest shoots through the base and can be adapted in any slope for the best comfort.

The asymmetric design gives you plenty of free space and even without the cushions it looks refined and inviting. Both seat and back cushion are identical. By adding an extra cushion that finishes up the site table, you create an extra seat or a comfortable place to rest your legs upon.
